A BJP MLA from Gujarat has written to party President Rajnath Singh warning him of the possibility of Chief Minister Narendra Modi resorting to re-enact the post-Godhra carnage of 2002 ahead of Assembly elections.

In an eight-page letter to the BJP President, Surat MLA Dhirubhai Gajera issued a virtual chargesheet against the chief minister listing out 14 points of irregularities, corruption and autocratic methods of the current regime, because of which Modi has become a 8220;big embarrassment8221; for the BJP.

8220;I am afraid therefore that for sticking to Gujarat to retain power, as the last straw he may resort to techniques, which may once again plunge Gujarat into unthinkable crisis and woes re-enacting the Godhra bloodshed of 2002,8221; said Gajera8217;s letter a copy of which is in possession of The Indian Express.

Singh was not available for comment. BJP sources, however, dismissed the letter saying Gajera was a Modi detractor and also led a group of dissident BJP MLAs in the state.

Gajera said Modi was denied visa to the US again bringing 8220;embarrassment and insult8221; to every Gujarati and also the BJP. 8220;The fact that Europe and the US still continue to treat Modi as the head of a Government, which does not honour the constitutional obligations is a blot on us inflicted by the civilised world,8221; said the letter that was sent to the BJP President in May last.

Gajera also pointed an accusing finger at Modi in the controversial Haren Pandya murder case: 8220;There are lingering doubts, which still point finger towards the highest office in the state.8221;

Referring to the 8220;autocratic, self-centric, self-projecting style of functioning8221; of the chief minister, the MLA wrote to Rajnath Singh: 8220;The members of the Assembly are gagged. I have gone through this suffering. We are not permitted to speak. Our questions are not entertained.8221;

He further said, 8220;Their of the CM and his close aides simple logic is those who voice their concern silence them and those who come in your way eliminate them. There are several MLAs who have been threatened of severe consequences if they do not fall in line. On the other hand, close confidants of the chief minister are rolling in millions.8221;

According to Gajera, in an era of coalition politics 8220;Modi phenomenon8221; is doing 8220;utmost damage8221; to the party.

He requested the BJP President to have an independent assessment of Gujarat. There is simmering discontent amongst the rank and file of the party. There are indications that a large number of BJP supporters are deserting the party in Saurashtra, North Gujarat, Kutch and South Gujarat, said Gajera.

8216;CM is Advani8217;s bread-earning son8217;

AHMEDABAD: From charges of phone tapping to calling Chief Minister Narendra Modi a dictator and the bread-earning son of LK Advani 8212; allegations are pouring in from dissidents BJP leaders in the state. This in turn is hampering BJP8217;s claim of maintaining strict disciplinary norms for its workers, leaders and office bearers. In the past one month, dissident BJP leaders, including MPs and MLAs, have used strong language not only against Modi but also against his mentor Advani. Two MPs in particular, Somabhai Patel of Surendranagar and Dr Vallabh Kathiria, former Union minister and Rajkot MP8212; have criticised Modi.
