CHANDIGARH, April 5: A minor fire broke out in the sixth floor room of a resident of the Kasturba Hall in the Punjab University this morning. No one was injured and no major damage caused.

Reportedly, the incident occurred when a mattress in the room caught fire after an electric iron was accidentally left switched on. Some residents of the hostel in the opposite building saw smoke bellowing out of the room and sounded an alert. Shivgeet Dhaliwal, a hostel resident said. 8220;We managed to break open the door and put off the fire with buckets of water before the fire brigade or the police came,8221; she added.

The hostel warden Saroj Ghosh, while confirming the incident said the residents are not allowed to use electrical appliances.
