KHARAR, Nov 12: Punjab PWD Minister Harmel Singh Tohra has said that the chowk with traffic lights would be constructed at Kurali bus stand chowk instead of the proposed roundabout so that the shopkeepers of the area were not displaced. The assurance was given by him to a deputation of the Kurali Bus Stand Dukaan Bachao Sangharsh Committee, which called on him yesterday.

According to a press release issued by president of the committee Narendra Sehgal, the Minister heard the problems of the deputation and directed the superintending engineer and SDE of the PWD to personally visit the site immediately to review the situation in order to prepare a fresh proposal.

The committee has expressed gratitude over the assurance.

Meanwhile, Roonagar Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu told this correspondent that roundabouts would definitely be constructed as per the previous proposal at Kharar, Kurali and Roopnagar in order to control the traffic. He said that pilgrims visiting Anandpur Sahib on tercentenary celebrations would face great hardship, if proposed round about were not constructed. Sidhu called upon the shopkeepers of these areas to extend support and co-operation for early construction of the proposed round abouts at Kharar, Kurali and Roopnagar.
