SRINAGAR, Oct 21: Two Army personnel were gunned down in broad daylight in Pattan, a police spokesperson said. Two naiks of the 167 Field Regiment of the Artillery, Balwinder Singh and Narinder Singh, were shot dead at point-blank range by three militants at a shop in the Kutahode area of Pattan at 12.30 pm. The two jawans were visiting the welding shop for the fourth time in connection with an order placed for a trunk and were shot by the waiting militants.

The jawans were rushed to a nearby Army hospital but were declared dead. The police rushed to the spot but failed to apprehend the militants. Army officers suspect the hand of the shop-keeper in the killings.
