Peeved at the Government8217;s 8216;8216;lack of response8217;8217; to his pleas for correcting mistakes in a Hindi text book, a school teacher in Orissa8217;s Bolangir district has decided to contest the ensuing Assembly elections and raise funds for it by selling his three small daughters. Surath Behera, who teaches in the Hindi High School at Barpalli, said his efforts to get the book corrected have not yielded any result. He had even moved court for the purpose, Behera said.

The teacher has launched a dharna outside the tehsil office at Kantabanji in support of his demand since Tuesday. Behera said he is now thinking of contesting the Assembly elections from Kantabanji constituency as an Independent and since he does not have the funds, is prepared to sell his three small daughters if buyers are available.

Bongomunda block is known for the frequent allegations of sale of children by poverty-stricken parents though the charge is always denied by the administration. 8212;PTI
