
CHANDIGARH, July 2: The Punjab University Campus Students8217; Council president D.P.S. Randhawa today threatened to launch 8220;protest action against the university authorities8221; after July 10, unless the demand for re-examination of the MFC Part II International Finance Paper is conceded.
Randhawa, who submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor today, stated that the university8217;s decision not to hold re-examination in the International Finance paper was against the students8217; interests.
On May 19, scores of MFC students had walked out of the examination halls to protest against the 8220;out of pattern8221; paper and later protested outside the V-C8217;s office demanding re-examination.
Randhawa has threatened a stir unless the PU authorities8220;reconsider and give a favourable decision8221; the memorandum stated.
Library assistants upset over less pay
The Punjab University Library Assistants, in a memorandum submitted to the Vice-Chancellor have expressed 8220;resentment owing to their placement in the lower pay-scale and non-existence of any promotion for them.8221; A press release issued today stated that the library assistants are placed in the pay-scale of Rs 5,480-8,925 while the essential qualification for the post is a Masters Degree in Library and Infirmation Science. On the other hand, the release stated, that a similar post does not exist even in the DPI Colleges, Punjab, and senior librarians working in Punjab government offices for which the required qualifications are BA, B.Lib are placed in the scale Rs 5,800-9,200.
The assistants have sought the scale of Rs 6,40010,640 for themselves with promotion to the post of assistant librarian after eight years of service, it was added.
