Mehendale is EMRC director

PUNE, July 22: The University of Pune has appointed Dr Vishwas Mehendale as Director of the Educational Media Research Centre EMRC. Mehendale, who has been the pioneer director of the Symbiosis Institute of Journalism SIJC will take charge within a month.

The appointment was made a month after Prof Vinay Dhumale tendered his resignation as EMRC director. Interviews to the post were held on Monday, Dr Arun Nigavekar, Vice-Chancellor, UoP said. When contacted, Mehendale said he would take charge within a month.

Even as the varsity has appointed the EMRC director, academic circles are keenly watching the appointment of the key post of the Director of Board of College and University Development, BCUD which has significant powers according to the Maharashtra Universities Act 8217;94. Fergusson College principal V K Wagh and Science faculty dean at UoP M G Takwale are among the top contenders for the post.

Nigavekar said that a decision regarding the appointment would be taken soon. Currently Acting Registrar M G Shinde is also the temporary Director of BCUD.
