SURAT, June 15: The Surat District Bar Association SDBA has called for a general meeting through requisition on Wednesday to chalk out further course of action, following the inability of the Detection of Crime Branch to file a chargesheet in the Nita Satbhaya murder case. The proposal to this effect was brought by the working committee that met at the court premises.

A few advocate members of SDBA called for the requisition meeting, demanding the bar association make a representation to the police commissioner to transfer Kaneriya from the post of DCB police inspector for having failed to file a chargesheet in the case.

Ajay Desai, SDBA president, said that a requisition meeting had been called after 36 advocates of the bar gave letters calling for a general meeting. He added that the advocates contended that Kaneriya be transferred as the DCB had not managed the case well and did not file a chargesheet against the three accused arrested so far.

All three arrested, namely Chandrakant Kahar, Naresh Naphtha and Kallu Dagga were released on bail by a district and sessions court magistrate after the DCb failed to file a chargesheet against the three. The lawyers have been protesting in the case because municipal councillor Nita Satbhaya, also chairperson of the Municipal Law Committee, was a lawyer herself.

The lawyers had quit work in protest against the murder of the councillor for more than a month after Satbhaya was murdered on December 19 last year. They have since been on strike on a couple of occasions, demanding better investigation of the case by the police.
