
CHANDIGARH, Oct 5: To ensure planned growth, UT Administrator Lt Gen B.K.N. Chhibber retd today discussed various measures to check encroachments and illegal constructions in the peripheral areas of the UT, at a meeting with Punjab and Haryana Chief Secretaries R.S. Mann and R.S. Varma, which was also attended by UT Adviser Vineeta Rai.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to seek cooperation of Punjab and Haryana governments in maintaining homogeneous character of the periphery, especially in areas around Mohali and Panchkula.
Chhibber also asked the UT Administration to check the encroachments in the periphery and take strict action against officials who have failed to keep a check on such illegal construction in their respective territories. He stressed on preserving land around Chandigarh and called upon the Administration to evolve suitable measures to eliminate misuse of land. The meeting also discussed various aspects of planned growth of periphery to preserve the basic character of the city.
