Medical negligence case: Rap for multiple petitions

In a curious turn in India8217;s highest ever medical negligence compensation case involving Rs 77.77 crore, president of the National Consumer Redressal Commission Justice M B Shah today said India-born US citizen Dr Kunal Saha 8220;will not be allowed8221; to go to the United States.

In a curious turn in India8217;s highest ever medical negligence compensation case involving Rs 77.77 crore, president of the National Consumer Redressal Commission Justice M B Shah today said India-born US citizen Dr Kunal Saha 8220;will not be allowed8221; to go to the United States.

At the fag-end of hearing today, Justice Shah pointed out to Dr Saha, an AIDS specialist and a professor in Ohio State University, that India could not tolerate multiple petitions and observed: 8220;I will not allow you to go from here.8221;

Pointing at Saha8217;s counsel Aveek Datta, the judge said: 8220;I will hold you accountable for this.8221;

Dr Saha is fighting a legal battle for over eight years now for fixing accountability on doctors for medical negligence.

His wife Anuradha Saha, also a doctor in the US, had died allegedly due to medical negligence.

Arguments will continue tomorrow as well.
