DHAKA, MAY 29: After evading the media on Sunday to avoid answering questions on the raging match-fixing scandal, Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly and coach Kapil Dev met the press on Monday but restricted themselves to fielding questions strictly related to the Asia Cup.
8220;We have been hearing these allegations for quite along time. Can we stop that topic and just get down to cricket ?8221;, an exasperated Ganguly asked when a reporter wanted to know whether the allegations surrounding some of the players and the coach would affect their performance here.
8220;We are not interested in answering questions on a controversy,8221; Ganguly said addressing a brief press conference ahead of their opening game against hosts Bangladesh.
The organisers of the press meet, the Bangladesh Cricket Board BCB, had barred the media from raising any question on the various allegations and asked them to restrict themselves to those connected to the tournament.
The Indian skipper said the team was determined to do well and win the title and Kapil Dev said 8220;we stand a very good chance of winning8221;. Asked whether the Dhaka ground was lucky for India, Ganguly said 8220;it has been so far.
Last time we played here during the Independence Cup 1998 we won.8221;
