Meanwhile, Sena to stage protest during opening ceremony

Feeling ignored and left out from the Commonwealth Youth Games proceedings, the Shiv Sena is all set to make their presence felt for the games, before President Pratibha Patil, by staging a protest during the opening ceremony at 4.30 pm on Sunday.

In an open declaration to the media, area chief Balasaheb Bhande said that Sena members will gather in huge numbers to protest Indian Olympic Association and chairman of Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi8217;s high handedness.

Bhande said that none of the Sena members were invited to the installation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj8217;s statue at the Balewadi sports city last week. We have not received any invitations to the opening ceremony either. He said that Kalmadi had not kept his promises and assurances to the villagers of Mhalunge and Balewadi.

8220;Kalmadi is showcasing the games as a Congress event. It is an international event with the cooperation of all parties, but he does not acknowledge it,8217;8217;said Bhande in the letter. All the key members led by Bhande and Sena city chief and key members will protest during the inaugural event.

The event organisers have drawn the ire of Sena members for not being invited to the installation of the statue last week.

Khed MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Shiv Sena members Sharad Dhamale, Gajanan Babar, PCMC city chief Bhagwan Valhekar, Mulshi taluka chief Gyandev Shedge, area chief Bhande, Mhalunge sarpanch Rekha Padale will participate in the agitation.
