KHARAR, March 26: The local municipal council would conduct a probe into the construction of unauthorised residential and commercial colonies and encroachments on its land in the township and strict legal action would be initiated against the concerned officials. A resolution to this effect was unanimously adopted at a meeting of the municipal council, held under the presidentship of council chief Ranbir Singh, here today. The meeting witnessed noisy scenes over the issue and all the councilors, while accusing the MC sectional officer for the irregularities, adopted a resolution demanding his immediate transfer.
Uproarious scenes prevailed in the House when councillor Om Parkash Aggarwal handed over a letter to the MC chief regarding increase in the encroachments and unauthorised constructions on the municipal land. In his letter, Aggrawal said authorities had failed to check increasing encroachments and unauthorised constructions in the township.
He said that a resident, who had allegedly encroached upon a major chunk of government land recently, had threatened him with dire consequences in front of the authorities at the MC office here on February 15, but no action had been initiated in the matter despite a written complaint lodged with the local police.
Taking serious note of the matter, the councillors decided to take up the matter before the district police chief. Aggarwal has sent the copies of the letter to the concerned minister and principal secretary as well. Other councillors Roshan Lal, Natrajan Kaushal, Kuldeep Singh, Charanjit Singh, Sushma Verma and Jagdish Chander expressed dissatisfaction over the poor arrangements of street lighting and cleanliness in the township and sought immediate improvement. They also sought a probe into the alleged bungling in the purchase of new street lights.
