The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation MC is contemplating handing over the underground parking lots to the market associations for maintenance. This issue had come up for discussion at the monthly coordination meeting of the Administration and the Municipal Corporation held on Tuesday.
The MC has underground parking lots in Sector 8 and 17. These are, however, not adequately used. While the underground parking lot in Sector 8 has been handed over to the market association, a meeting will be held with the market associations in Sector 17 to decide on the issue. The underground parking lots have never been very popular with the residents due to frequent thefts.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship UT Advisor Pradip Mehra, Mayor Pardeep Chhabra as well as senior officers of the Administration and MC.
The Mayor said that a scheme will be formulated for their development as a modern dairy complex, which includes facilities for residents, cattle sheds, gobar gas plant and milk plant.
The issue of Martyr8217;s Gallery also came up for discussion. The design of pre-fab shelters for taxi stands has also been finalised.
The Mayor raised the issue of reviewing land price to be charged from allottees for religious spaces. An area of two acres has been allocated to PFA and the dog pound should be part of that project, he said. The MC would coordinate with PFA for constructing a dog pound in that area.
The issue of delay in the sanction of concept building plans from the office of the Chief Architect was also taken up. A meeting for clearing drawings for internal additions and renovation of Janj Ghar in Sector 47 will be convened soon.
The Mayor again raised the issue of space earmarked for a shopping centre in Mauli Jagran to be transferred to the Municipal Corporation.
The other issues raised included recarpetting of parking in Sector 38-C market, Dhanas Bridge, widening of road from Sector 39 to Maloya and construction of Sahaj Safai Kendras.
It was pointed out that there is a reserve land in front of Burail village, which should be developed otherwise it would turn into a dumping ground.
The demand for high mast lights in parks and green belts was also raised as the dimly-lit points are prone to theft.
