CHANDIGARH, Nov 12: The Municipal Corporation is considering setting up an amusement park near Sector 56. According to the proposal, land measuring 50 acres in the west of Sector 56, bordering S.A.S. Nagar, has been identified for the park.

The site is near the quot;Patiali-ki-raoquot; choe and Maloya village. The new Grain Market being constructed by the Administration is also located in the same area.

It is proposed that approach to the park will be provided by extending the main outer road the V2 road of the area and constructing a bridge over the choe. It is also being considered that a second approach can be provided through S.A.S. Nagar for the park.

The Corporation had earlier suggested that the park could be set up near Mani Majra. The Corporation had also found that this land was measuring about 50 acres and the park could be developed there. But this suggestion did not find favour with the Administration. Officials felt that having an amusement park on the road would lead to traffic blockages in the area.

The proposal envisages that the amusement park may include space for play activities for children, computerised games, a planetarium, a theatre, water sports, club house, etc.

While MC officials were earlier enthused about the proposal, they point out that now, it may not be possible for MC to set it up soon. This is because they were earlier considering that the Administration may provide the land to MC at nominal rates, as has been done on previous occasions for other projects.

An official said that for the amusement park, the Administration has said that the MC should acquire the land itself. He said this would require an investment of nearly Rs 4.5 crore and it was not within the means of the MC to buy the land at such exorbitant rates.

The MC had earlier been considering that if it got the land at a nominal rate from the Administration, it would lease it to a private agency for developing the area and running the park.
