Massa on pole, Fisichella vaults

Ferrari8217;s Felipe Massa edged Lewis Hamilton of McLaren to snatch pole position for Sunday8217;s Singapore Formula One Grand Prix.

With overtaking becoming difficult on the tight and bumpy track for F18217;s first ever night race, Massa took a significant edge on Saturday over the man who leads him by one point. With Hamilton sitting in provisional pole in the dying seconds of qualifying, Massa put in a stunning final lap, setting a time six-tenths of a second quicker than the Briton. Ferrari8217;s Kimi Raikkonen will start from third ahead of BMW8217;s Robert Kubica.

Double trouble

Force India8217;s Giancarlo Fisichella launched his car in practice through the air at the high curbs of turn 10, crashing heavily into a barrier. After the car was hastily repaired for qualifying, Fisichella again crashed on his first flying lap.
