Three Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ABVP members from Maharashtra were injured on Friday morning, when some locals pelted stones on Mumbai-bound Patna-Kurla Express near Naini station in Allahabad.

The incident occurred when a few locals tried to occupy seats in a reserved bogey that led to commotion between them and the ABVP members, who were travelling in the compartment. They allegedly overpowered four local youths.

This led to rumours that Maharashtrians had attacked north Indians. Angry locals then stopped the train and started pelting stones at the compartment. Personnel of GRP and police rushed in to disperse the crowd.

The injured are Deepak Kolpatte, Aniket Palsetkar and Sandesh Dutta 8212; all from Mumbai. They were coming from Patna, where they had gone to attend a conference. On their complaint, the GRP lodged an FIR against the unidentified men.

The injured were given first aid at Allahabad junction, where workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal held a demonstration against the attack. The incident delayed the train by three hours.
