BUENOS AIRES, JAN 21: Argentine football legend Diego Maradona admitted on Friday that he would face almost certain death if he relapsed into cocaine addiction in a frank interview by telephone with Buenos Aires radio station Radio 10.
The 39-year-old is being treated in Cuba as he continues his recovery after being admitted to a Uruguayan clinic a fortnight ago.
Maradona, who led his country to World Cup victory in 1986, said he was fully conscious of the seriousness of his illness which he said had been caused by toxins in his heart. He then said he would die if he relapsed into cocaine use.
Maradona, known in his homeland as El Pibe The Kid, said: 8220;If today, for whatever reason, I allow myself to take whatever substance that is not good for me I will be six foot under alongside Argentinian former F-1 world champ Juan Manuel Fangio and legendary Argentinian tango artist Carlos Gardel.8221;
