Diego Maradona was breathing on his own yesterday after doctors removed him from a respirator for the second time in three days while he continues to battle with serious heart and lung problems.

Maradona8217;s condition has 8220;stabilized8221;, he is 8220;no longer suffering from a fever, and his heart is functioning well with medication,8221; said the statement released by the hospital.

On Saturday doctors decided to return Maradona to a breathing tube and respirator after briefly 8220;suspending8221; its use on Friday.

The soccer great had been on the respirator ever since being hospitalized. His prognosis remains guarded, but doctors on Saturday said in a statement that future progress in Maradona8217;s case would be 8220;slow and laborious.8221; Maradona is being treated with drugs for the heart condition and antibiotics for a lung infection.
