Manipur: another engineer attacked

Suspected militants shot at and wounded an executive engineer of the Irrigation 038; Flood Control Department IFCD at his residence in Imphal on Friday. Soubam Dhanabir Singh is the second senior IFCD official to be attacked in the past 24 hours.

On Thursday, unidentified militants had hurled a hand grenade at the residence of Minor Irrigation Department8217;s executive engineer Gourakishore Singh, but the official escaped unhurt. According to police reports, on Friday morning, Soubam Dhanabir Singh was called out of his residence by three persons posing as newspaper vendors and was shot in both legs. Singh, who has been admitted in Shija Hospital here, is yet to regain consciousness. However, he is said to be out of danger. Police sources said they suspected the KCP MC to be behind the attack. Both the engineers are suspected to have been targeted for not meeting extortion demands.
