
A driver on his way to fetch school children was shot in the shoulder by two motorcycle-borne persons at Dadar8217;s busy N C Kelkar road on Monday afternoon. The victim, 37 year-old Prakash Amre who was conscious when the police arrived, identified one of the accused as Baba alias Pradeep Gude. He alleged that a dispute over property had triggered the attack.
The Shivaji Park police have registered a case of attempt to murder against both the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe who visited the spot said, 8220;Gude has a criminal record and has over ten offences registered against him ranging from assault, extortion and illegal usage of arms dating back to 1997.8221;
Amre was rushed to the KEM Hospital. According to Amre8217;s relatives, he was operated upon and is now out of danger. Ravi, Amre8217;s cousin said, 8220;Around 4 years ago Amre and his family were residents of the De Silva wadi in Prabhadevi. However, when a local builder proposed to buy the plot of land on which the wadi stood for development, Gude had offered to help him evict all the residents for a commission. However during discussions with the builder Amre suggested that they would be willing to move if given a lump sum in return. Eventually the land was cleared without a middleman and Gude who had to forego his commission held Amre responsible for it.8221;
Amre, his wife and two children had shifted to Worli but Amre continued to receive threats from Gude and his henchmen.
