Leading figures in Indian hockey speak on the Dhanraj issue

There seems to be a man-management crisis in the IHF. Whatever has happened is very unfortunate. Dhanraj is undoubtedly the best. It’s difficult to imagine that there are players in the team who do not want him.

We don’t have a proper system to check the fitness of our players. There is lack of a fitness parameter for the Indian team — decisions about injuries and fitness are taken in a haphazard manner. Dhanraj needs to take it easy and stay away from controversies if he wishes to play his fourth Olympics.

Ashish Ballal, Former goalkeeper

He was looking forward to playing the Olympics qualifiers. What happened so suddenly is shocking.

MK Kaushik, former India men’s coach

I spoke to him a couple of days back and Dhanraj told me that he wanted one more week to be absolutely fit. No coach will leave behind a player if he is good.
