A man immolated himself in the toilet of Cheran Express around 5.45 am today. A compartment and the brake van were gutted.
Thanks to an alert railway staff, more than 100 passengers in the train, bound for Coimbatore from Chennai, escaped. A guard in the luggage van noticed heavy smoke coming out from the toilet and alerted the driver, who stopped the train, just before Irugur.
