
CHANDIGARH, Sept 6: The Chandigarh Administration today filed its reply in a civil suit pending against it in the court. In the suit filed here by Punjab Civil and Consumer Welfare Front and Youth Welfare Club, village Maloya, the plaintiffs sought the court to direct respondents UT Administration, Municipal Corporation, Executive Engineer, PHD division 13 and Executive Engineer, Electricity Department, subdivision number 10 to remove garbage in village Maloya, apart from providing dustbins and proper street lighting facilities.
The suit was filed here on November 15, 1997 but the reply on behalf of the Administration came today.
It was stated in the reply that the tube lights under the control of this office were functioning properly and that the latest certificate by the sarpanch of the village held a verification to that. It was added that electricity supply in village Maloya was normal, with 800 electricity connections there. For improvement in electricity supply an independent 11 KV feeder to Maloya had also been provided, it was stated.
The Administration also added that all street lights had been set right and had been now functioning properly.
Beant Singh case 8212; evidence continues
The Beant Singh assassination case being tried by UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi today resumed in the makeshift courtroom at Burial. Witness Gurpreet Singh was today recalled for examination and his evidence was completed.
Earlier he had stated that he knew Balwant Singh accused who was a friend of Tejinder. He said that Balwant and Dilwar Singh the believed to be human bomb came to Nagpur for the first time in 1993. He had added that on September 1, 1995 Balwant gave a call to Tejinder and told him that Dilawar had died in the explosion which killed former Punjab CM Beant Singh. The witness added that on September 2 Balwant came to Nagpur where they met him. He stated that Balwant told them that with the help of some friends from the Babbar Khalsa and at the instance of Mehr Singh and Randhawa Singh, he and Dilawar had assassinated the CM.
The witness added that on account of what Balwant narrated they all apprehended trouble. So they got him accommodation in a hotel where he entered his name as Sandeep Sharma. The witness was later cross examined by Balwant and Hawara.
Bail pleas of fraud accused declined
UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class A.K. Bishnoi today rejected the bail applications of two accused of fraud. The applications of Nagesh Kumar Singh and Om Parkash Singh were turned down today on the account that the offence was serious and investigation was still at the initial stages. The two were remanded to judicial custody till September 20.
The accused were booked here under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B IPC. It was alleged that they are directors of Akansha Housing Finance, which floated a scheme under which many people deposited amounts. Entry about the deposits made used to be made in pass books by investors. It was added that one Mohan Lal deposited Rs 14,150 for the period between June 18, 1997 and April 18, 1998 and the said amount was to mature after 15 months. It was, however, stated that when the date of maturity drew closer, the Company8217;s branch office at Burial and the main office at Rei Bareilly were closed down.The said fraud involves an amount of about Rs 64,120.
