CHANDIGARH, Aug 30: Maharashtra men’s and women’s dominated the national karate championship which concluded recently at Pune, under the aegis of Karate Federation of India. According to information received here, during the meet national team was selected for the 8th SAF Games to be held at Nepal.

Results
Men:
Below 50 kg: 1 Sudhir Kumbhar (Mah), 2 Laxmi Kant Bargal (Mah). Below 55 kg: 1 Balram Ram Seth (Mah), 2 Pankaj Sharma (Delhi). Below 60 kg: 1 Mahesh Gurung (Mah), 2 Deep Chand Shende (Mah). Below 65 kg: 1 Arvind Kumar (UP), 2 Manish Kumar (Pb). Below 70 kg: 1 Manoj Kumar (Delhi), 2 Lalit Thapa (Mah). Below 75 kg: Raju Gavale (Goa), 2 Nilesh Joshi (Guj). Below 80 kg: 1 Rajesh Kumar (Pb), 2 Balasahed Malay (Mah). Above 80: 1 Sohan Singh (Pb), 2 Jiwan Kumar (Hry).
Women: Below 48 kg: 1 Neelam Sharma (Delhi), 2 Ashwani Rangri (Mah). Below 54 kg: 1 Vidya Kamble (Mah), 2 Nupur Dhake Phakar (Mah). Below 60 kg: 1 Anuradha Randhwa (Chd), 2 Vivek Yadav (UP). Above 60 kg: Renu Mundra (Mah).Kata: Men: Individual: 1 P Kumar (Guj), 2 Arvind Kumar (UP). Team: Gujarat (Nilesh Joshi, Rajendra Singh, Hiresh Kishore).
Women: Individual: 1 Neelam Kamble (Mah), 2 Praveen Yadav (Mah). Team: Maharashtra (Renu, Kalyani Deshmukh, Rupa).

Trials on September 2
Trials to select the Chandigarh under-14 cricket team will be held on Sepetmber 2 at 2 p.m. in the DAV Sr Secondary School, Sector 8 ground, according to Mohinder Singh, secretary, Chandigarh Cricket Association, affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association.

Punjab shooting
The Punjab State shooting championships will be organised from September 10 to 12 at the Patiali Rao Shooting Ranges at Sector 25. According to Raja KS Sidhu, secretary, Punjab Rifle Shooting Association, competition will be held in air pistol, air rifle events.

Earlier the meet was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
