The Maharashtra Government has stepped in to help Kalavati Bandurkar, the widow whose name Congress MP Rahul Gandhi mentioned in the Lok Sabha during the July 22 trust-vote debate, and who has apparently threatened to commit suicide.

“We have sought a report from the Yavatmal District Collector on her overall condition,” Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters at Vidhan Bhawan, replying to a query on her alleged threat to end her life.

Addressing a meeting in front of the Pandharkawda tehsil office in Yavatmal on July 25, Kalavati had said she might follow the “path of her husband” if the administration did not provide financial relief to her.
