
PUNE, Sept 20: Former Indian cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar has expressed his willingness to start a cricket academy in Pune on the lines of his Mumbai based Elf-Vengsarkar Cricket Academy.
8220;Maharashtra has immense potential. I am quite keen to start an academy here, but on my terms and conditions,8221; informed Vengsarkar who along with coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Makrand Waingankar are in the city along with their under-19 squad to play practice matches with various local teams.
The Elf-VCA team will be playing matches with Deccan Gymkhana Srs, MCA XI, Poona Club and Shirke Club before participating in the U-19 Sportstar tournament from September 27.
When asked whether he would take up any BCCI coaching assignment if offered, Vengsarkar, standing firm in his ground said, 8220;Presently I am well occupied with my academy and columns. And if I take up a BCCI assignment, it would not be possible to write genuine columns.quot;
Vengsarkar, while encouraging the idea of playing practice matches against inter-city teams, also invited the Maharashtra Cricket Association8217;s u-19 team to reciprocate the gesture and play in Mumbai for exposure. quot;The MCA should chalk out a brief programme during its off-season, so that the boys who are on the verge of making it into first-class cricket will benefit most.8221;
Meanwhile, in the first match Elf-VCA defeated Deccan Gymkhana by 8-wickets.
