Kochi, Feb 26: Twenty-year-old Madhur Kalia capped a productive day for Delhi with a second round win over eighth seed Abhishek Bakshi of Air-India in the Indian Oil Servo National Badminton Championship on Saturday.
Barring Abhishek, the other seeds had an easy time booking their berths in the third round.
Madhur Kalia, whose best National performance was his quarter-final entry in New Delhi last year, showed his all-round ability while outplaying an off-colour Bakshi, a trainee with the BPL Academy in Bangalore. Moving fast and excelling at the nets, Madhur, who had finished second to brother Arjun in the Delhi State championship, rallied from a 9-11 and 11-12 deficits to take the first game in 20 minutes. Bakshi, who was extremely slow to reach the bird, was in the match till 5-all in the second but then faded away making a series of unforced errors.
Arjun Kalia first beat Kerala8217;s V Diju in the first round and then prevailed over Ajantha Choudhary of Assam 13-15, 15-2, 15-3 in the second round.
No 1 seed P Gopi Chand PSCB, No 2 seed Abhinn Shyan Gupta BAI and No 3 seed Nikhil Kanetkar and No 4 seed Sidharth Jain PSCB had easy outings in the second round.
