Mumbai, November 1: Macrina Lobo of Canossa High School, Mahim has emerged as the sole leader in the under-8 girls category of the sixth Bournvita Inter School chess tournament organised by the Kalina Recreation & Sports Club jointly with the Bombay Chess Association at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle on Wednesday.Playing on the top board with White pieces against Abigail Fernandes of Fr. Agnel, Vashi, Macrina launched an all out attack from the word `go'. Abigail could not resist the onslaught and lost the game after 26 moves. Macrina leads the table with 5 points from as many games.Sneha Gada of Gopi Birla Memorial, Walkeshwar, could have easily joined Macrina in the leadership position, but let go her opponent Kavya Pai. Playing on the second board, Sneha handled the opening and middle game very well to arrive at what was a clear winning position. Then, to everyone's surprise, she offered a draw to her opponent which Kavya accepted and lapped up gratefully.
