Londoners reject marathon record

LONDON, APRIL 18: Joyce Chepchumba collected 125,000 today for winning the London Women8217;s Marathon in time organisers consider to be the true world best. The Kenyan clocked 2:23:22 seconds, two seconds inside Romanian Lidia Simon8217;s mark set in Osaka, Japan on January 31.

London officials have refused to recognise the official world best of 2:20:47 set by Kenyan Tegla Loroupe in Rotterdam, Netherlands last year because she was openly assisted by male runners in a mixed event.

Moroccan Abdelkader El Mouaziz, who led by 100 metres with only two kms to run last year only to lose to Spain8217;s world champion Abel Anton, made no mistake this time in the men8217;s race.
