Littleton returns in a month

Exactly a month after the bloodbath at a Colorado high school, a youth opened fire on fellow students at a high school in Conyers, a suburb of Atlanta in Georgia, on Thursday morning injuring six of his classmates. None of the injuries in the shooting is believed to be life-threatening, authorities said. 8220;There were no fatal injuries, so everyone8217;s going to be okay,8221; a Rockdale County police spokeswoman told AFP.

The alleged gunman 8212; identified as a 15-year-old sophomore 8212; was arrested following the shooting in this town which is 32 km east of Atlanta. 8220;He alleged gunman has no prior record that I know of,8221; Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Wigington said. The police declined to reveal his name because he is a juvenile. The shooting occurred just after 8 in the morning at Heritage High School on Thursday. Six students were injured, one seriously, hospital officials said. Two were released after treatment, while one of the girls injured in the abdomen had to undergo surgery.

Authorities said the youthwas armed with a .22 caliber rifle whose stock had been altered. He also had a handgun, Wigington said.

The attack came exactly one month, to the day, after two teenage gunmen went on a shooting rampage in Littleton, Colorado, on April 20, leaving 15 people dead, including the two gun-toting students. US President Bill Clinton was in fact in Littleton on Thursday to console victims of last month8217;s school massacre.

Expressing horror at the Atlanta shooting in his speech to high school students in Littleton, a suburb of Denver, Colorado, he said: 8220;The problem that came to the awful conclusion you faced here is a demon we have to do more to fight.8221; The shooting also came hours before the Senate approved controversial new gun-control measures introduced after the Littleton shooting as part of a juvenile justice package.
