
Congress president Sonia Gandhi today succeeded at least in bringing the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party to break bread together at a lunch hosted by her.
Among those present at the lunch of Opposition party leaders were Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, BSP8217;s Rashid Alvi, NCP8217;s Sharad Pawar, DMK MP T.R. Baalu, Somnath Chatterjee of the CPIM and former prime ministers H.D. Deve Gowda and Chandrashekhar.
Emerging from the lunch, Sonia said: 8216;8216;I wanted to thank all the Opposition party leaders for their cooperation in the last five years. And we will continue working together during the elections.8217;8217;
RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav said, 8216;8216;Leaders of all the secular parties had lunch sitting around one table. That is enough proof that we are united and we will defeat the BJP-led NDA.8217;8217;
Earlier in the day, Sonia asked her MPs to 8216;8216;expose the Prime Minister for his constantly shifting stance on all major national issues 8212; Gujarat, Ayodhya and Pakistan, to name only three.8217;8217;
