Let states select NREG districts: Stalin to PM

Minister for Rural Development in the Tamil Nadu Government M K Stalin today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the Centre make it a policy to consult states before selecting districts for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

He also apprised the PM of the 8220;successful8221; implementation of the NREGS in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu. Later, the son of TN Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also paid a courtesy visit to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

However, Stalin refused to be drawn into a debate over succession in the DMK, saying his father was capable of shouldering the responsibility of the party for now.
