Confrontation and coordination seem to go hand in hand for the Left. So while its leaders issue threats to the UPA Government on the proposal to hike the FDI cap in three sectors, efforts are on to set up a coordination committee for its smoother functioning as well. The Left, not the UPA, mooted the proposal to form a coordination committee in which they could participate as well and they mean business. For one, the Left parties have already handed over the list of the names of its members who have been nominated for the committee. Though there are no surprise names, the UPA is surprised at the swiftness with which the Left responded the moment their proposal was cleared by the Congress. 8216;8216;They are yet to decide which parties will be part of the committee. Possibly, only the major parties 8212; NCP, RJD, DMK 8212; will be represented to make it less unwieldy,8217;8217; CPIM8217;s Basudev Acharya said. While from the CPIM, Harkishan Singh Surjeet and politburo member Sitaram Yechuri have been nominated on the committee, the CPI will be represented by A.B. Bardhan and D. Raja, Foward Bloc by Debabrata Biswas and RSP by Abani Roy. As for the Congress, party chief Sonia Gandhi is yet to decide. The delay, the Left leaders said, is due to the fact that 8216;8216;they cannot decide whom to leave and whom to keep on the commitee8217;8217;; the Left 8216;8216;has no such problems8217;8217;. The only issue before the main Left Parties was whether or not to include members of the Parliamentary Party on the committee for better coordination inside the House or confine the choice to politburo leaders. The decision went in favour of the latter as 8216;8216;it was felt the coordination committee8217;s role would be mainly to define/implement the UPA government8217;s 8216;policy8217; and 8216;path8217;8217;8217;, a Left MP said.
