Stylish Indian Test batsman V.V.S. Laxman will join English county Nottinghamshire next month as a replacement for Adam Voges of Australia.

Laxman, who had a brief stint with Lancashire last season, will make his Nottinghamshire debut against Sussex at Hove on August 27.

8220;I8217;ve heard lots of great things about Nottinghamshire and I8217;m really looking forward to playing there at the end of the season,8221; said Laxman, who was named in the Indian Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour starting July 23, even though his ODI career seems all but over.

8220;Hopefully it will be a successful time for the Club and I can make a positive impact. I8217;ve played at Trent Bridge a few times and want to score a lot of runs for the team,8221; the wristy Hyderabadi said.

Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket, said Laxman8217;s arrival would boost the side. 8220;Laxman is a world class player and he doesn8217;t play one day cricket for India so he can commit to us at a time when a lot of players will be involved in international tournaments,8221; he said.

8220;He is an accomplished international batsman with excellent footwork and he reads spin very well. He is a big name and we8217;re pleased that he has agreed to join us,8221; Newell added.
