
PATIALA, Sept 29: In a meeting of the District Bar Association DBA, Patiala, held here today, it was resolved that the lawyers should press upon the authorities to declare a five-day week in judicial courts in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. To press upon this demand, the lawyers decided to abstain from attending any court, tribunal or arbitration meeting. A call was also made for lawyers all over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to follow suit.
B.S. Billing and Vinay Vatrana, president and honorary secretary of DBA, Patiala, respectively, jointly issued an appeal to all the presidents of bar associations of Punjab, Hayana and Chandigarh to earnestly follow the above absenteeism from work on all Saturdays.
Vatrana further said that a joint meeting of all presidents of bar associations of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh shall be convened at Patiala in the near future in order to constitute a high powered steering committee to meet the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court to press upon this genuine demand of the lawyers. The services of H.S. Mattewal, Advocate General of Punjab and Haryana, shall be utilised to highlight this aspect before the authorities concerned, he said.
