PORT-OF-SPAIN, April 9: Opener Clayton Lambert hit his maiden One-day century and captain Brian Lara, 93, as West Indies whipped England by 57 runs in the fifth and final Cable And Wireless One-Day Cricket International yesterday.

Lambert and Lara, both left-handers, piloted the home team to a formidable 302 for five off 50 overs.

England lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually bowled out for 245. Neil McGarrell was spectacular in his debut on the field, accounting for three run outs. Nick Knight 65 and Mark Ramprakash 51 led England8217;s effort.

Earlier, it was the 36-year-old Lambert that took center stage. The Guyanese8217;s 119 spanned 124 balls and was spiced with 17 boundaries and three sixes to all parts of a packed Queen8217;s Park Oval.

He added a record 185 for the third wicket in 33.1 overs after the home team made a stuttering start. McGarrell soon made his presence felt. The 25-year-old from Guyana swooped at cover and his direct hit at the bowler8217;s end beat Ben Hollioake8217;s desperatelunge.

McGarrell8217;s slick fielding accounted for Knight, as he sprinted in from point and returned to Laurie Williams at the bowler8217;s end to find Knight short of his ground.

The West Indies, who won the Test series 3-1, took the One-day series 4-1. Curtly Ambrose, who rested during the last two internationals, was named Man of the Series. The 34-year-old picked up 30 wickets in the Test series and received the keys to a Rover vehicle, part of the prize.
