Labourer dies in accident at construction site

A 19-year-old migrant labourer died while two others sustained injuries when a cantilever at an under-construction industrial unit collapsed. The incident took place in Industrial Area, Phase VIII, around 5 pm on Saturday.

The three were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mohali where Shankar was declared 8216;dead on arrival8217;. Pana Lal and Nisar, both in their twenties, were admitted with multiple injuries. The condition of the two is reported to be stable.

8220;The labourers were working at the construction site of an industrial unit. The moment they started opening the shutter, the cantilever collapsed, trapping the three of them,8221; said a police officer who did not want to be named. He said a postmortem on Shankar8217;s body would be conducted tomorrow.

The police have, meanwhile, registered a case against Ram Swerath, a private contractor, and the administration of the industrial unit concerned.
