MUMBAI, June 2: King8217;s Circle, which turned into an ocean of misery on Saturday, was still a daunting waterworld today. Some of the water had receded since the weekend following emergency clearing operations by the civic authorities but the water-logging was still serious today.

The weekend deluge blanketed the Sion-King8217;s Circle area in knee-deep water. Today, it had receded by about six inches.

The choked storm water drain, which had submerged the entire area on Saturday, was still being dredged today. Water is also being diverted through temporary culverts dug on Wednesday. Two manholes have also been opened and cleaned to facilitate drainage.

But residents say wet knees and wrinkled feet have become a permanent condition since Saturday. 8220;I guess we have to live the knee-deep water till the end of the monsoon; no one can save us from this plight,8221; rues a resident, Gautam B Chaturvedi.

Ward Officer F-North S K Karwande blames this on the sea. He reasons that though the BMC cleaned the drain onWednesday, the water was still standing today due to high tide conditions. 8220;The high tide will remain till 4.45 pm today but we hope to clear the area by 9 pm,8221; says Karwande. Residents, though, dismiss this as just another excuse.
