
PUNE, Feb 23: Almost 44 hours after she was abducted by four youths, the body of Radha Mirekar 20 was found floating in the Mutha right bank canal near Fatima Nagar on Monday evening. The corpse of a 30-year-old man was also recovered from the same spot.
The newly-wed woman8217;s abduction and death remained shrouded in mystery as the identity of the man, whose body was also found floating aside her body, could not be ascertained till late in the evening. The identities of the four youths, who abducted Radha after stabbing her husband Sanjay, are yet to be ascertained.
Inspector in-charge of Wanowrie police station Babajan Tamboli said: 8220;Radha was apparently abducted by her acquaintances. Sanjay, who suffered injuries after he was attacked, has recorded a statement saying that the abductors accused Radha of betraying them when she pleaded for mercy8221;.
A resident of Ramtekdi, Radha was returning home with her husband after visiting her relatives in Wadarwadi on Saturday night when she was abducted. Sanjay said the four unidentified youths intercepted their autorickshaw near gate number 2 of Race Course, dragged him out and stabbed him, around 10.00 pm. The autorickshaw driver, who is yet to be identified, fled from the spot leaving the couple in a hapless condition.
According to Sanjay, the quadruple whisked away Radha in the autorickshaw while he lay in a pool of blood. Later, he says, he staggered to the police and lodged an FIR. Sanjay, who was admitted to the Sassoon hospital, was discharged on Monday.
