NEW DELHI, May 5: A fine knock of 99 by Radhey Shyam Gupta went in vain as Delhi Blues lost to Khalsa College by four wickets in the final of the seventh Pal Singh memorial tournament at the Sant Harchand Singh Longowal Sports Complex (Khalsa College) here today.

Replying to Delhi Blues’ 219 for nine in the stipulated 40 overs, the hosts made 223 for six in 38.3 overs. Vicky Dhir (67: 68 balls, 5×4, 3×6) and wicketkeeper-batsman Varun Kumar, who remained unbeaten on 40 (50b, 4×4) helped Khalsa College reach their target.

Dhir and Punjab Ranji wicketkeeper Harminder Singh Jugnu gave the winners a flying start by putting on 64 runs in 14 overs for the first wicket. Later Tejinder Pal scored a breezy 36 (25b, 6×4). Off-spinner Sumeet Dogra was the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets for 29 runs.

Earlier, Radhey Shyam Gupta struck 10 fours and a six in his 110-ball innings before edging Rajesh Gahlaut to Varun Kumar behind the wickets. Gahlaut, Tejinder Pal Singh and Sanjeev Kumar took two wickets each.

Prizes were given away by former National coach and Dronacharya Awardee, Gurcharan Singh.
