BHADRACHALAM, APRIL 19: South Zone champions Karnataka thrashed Tamil Nadu by 85 runs to secure third place in the Rev Katakshamma memorial trophy all-India women’s cricket tournament played at the junior college ground here on Monday.

Former Test players Mamata Maben (98 n.o.) and Mala Sundereshan (48 n.o.) tore the Tamil Nadu attack to pieces. Mamata played some lovely pulls and drives after she enjoyed a let off, dropped by TN skipper Jayalakshmi at square-leg.

Tamil Nadu never looked like winning. None of the batswomen, barring opener Amsavalli (20), were comfortable against some fine Karnataka bowling and fielding.

Brief Scores

Karnataka 203-2 in 35 overs (Mamata Maben 98 n.o., Mala Sundereshan 48 n.o.) bt Tamil Nadu 120-6 in 35 overs (Amsavalli 20, Kamakshi 16, Jayalakshmi 13, Lissy 22 n.o.).
