
KARGIL, SEPT 6: After witnessing the two-month long battle and hectic electioneering, this town is now preparing for a three-day Kargil Festival from June 10.
The Festival, which is an annual event, shall include cultural programmes, polo matches and archery contests, according to the Deputy Commissioner Shaleen Kabra. He said people from all over the country are welcome to visit the area during the Festival.
Giving details, he said that cultural programmes representing the rich heritage of the Batalik, Shakar-Chintan and Shargole areas which have their unique characteristics, on the opening day of the Festival. The authorities also plan to organise a visits to the cave monastery of Rgyal Wakha, Mulbekh Gompa, Shargole Gompa, Wakha Changchub Chosling (nunnery) and Fokar Rzong.
The second day of the Festival would include archery and traditional bow and arrow competitions, cultural programmes from Drass and Balti Gazals. An exhibition of Handloom and Handicrafts will also be arranged, Kabra said.
Thesewill be followd by cultural programmes from Zanskar and hore racing competition. Subsequently, some of the cultural troupes would leave for Leh to participate in the ladakh festival, he added.
