NOVEMBER 18: Mumbai did everything at the Brabourne Stadium today to lose out on the knock-out berth from West Zone in the u-19 Cooch Behar Cricket Tournament. The bowling lacked imagination and the batting lacked determination paving way for Saurashtra to take an iron-grip on the three-day encounter.
Mumbai8217;s insipid display shouldn8217;t take away the credit from the Saurashtra tail-enders and the spin duo of skipper Uday Karavadra and Rakesh Dhruv.
Resuming at the overnight score of 207-8, the Saurashtra last pair of Nilesh Rathod 49 not out: 72b, 89m, 5215;4 and Jolly Jobanputra 33: 47b, 55m, 4215;4 frustrated the Mumbai bowlers no end raising a 66-run stand. While the Saurashtra score swelled to 296, the Mumbai hopes of forcing an outright victory was fading into oblivion.
Off-spinner Karavadra 4-43 and left-arm spinner Dhruv 5-38 then made the Mumbai batsmen dance to the tunes as the hosts crashed to a paltry 129. Worse was in store when following on, they were 12-2 when stumps were drawn for the day. Dhruv claimed both the wickets to end the day with a seven-wicket haul.
While Saurashtra 13 points look set to make the grade, Mumbai 8 appear set to hit the cellar.

Choksi chokes Maharashtra
The Maharashtra under-19 team seemed to have taken the cue from their seniors as they struggled to stave off an innings defeat on the second day of the three-day Cooch Behar Trophy cricket match against Vadodara at the Deccan Gymkhana.
Crashing to 96 for four after being forced to follow on, Maharashtra8217;s juniors need to score another 87 runs to make the visitors bat again and avoid the ignominy of an innings defeat.
Vadodara were served well by Imran Pathan 61: 142b, 176m, 7215;4, 1215;6 and Shekhar Joshi 81: 114b, 152m, 8215;4, 4215;6, who raised 129 runs for the seventh wickets. Thus, Vadodara resuming at the overnight score of 280-6 went on to amass 347.
In reply, Maharashtra choked the medium-pace of Rajesh Choksi 5-49. Had it not been for the 78-run stand between Sagar Tilak 58 not out: 82b, 133m, 10215;4 and Agrani Bhosale 35: 50b, 85m, 5215;4, Maharashtra8217;s fate would have been worse.
