DERA BASSI, May 9: Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh has dismissed the Congress Party8217;s attempt to project Sonia Gandhi as next Prime Minister as retrograde and the symptom of a servile mentality; he said the Shiromani Akali Dal would not allow the Congress to succeed.

He was addressing a large gathering at Sundra village under Dera Bassi block after turning over the keys of 66 EWS houses to the owners and before laying the foundation stone of a link road between Sundra and Haripur Hinduwa. He said that the SAD-BJP combine will field its candidates at all 13 parliamentary seats.

The Finance Minister also told the audience that the government would invest Rs 60 crore in construction of dwelling units for weaker sections in different parts of the state in the current financial year. The houses at village Sundra were constructed at a cost of Rs 35.64 lakh.

Blaming the Congress Party for the midterm poll, he said that the people of the country will not spare the Congress for imposing an economic burden of Rs 11,000 crore on the country. He expected the SAD-BJP coalition partners to win almost all seats on the basis of performance during its two-year rule. He said that in the forthcoming parliamentary campaign, the Congress would have nothing to project before the people.

Finance Minister announced grants for the construction of circular roads and basic amenities in Sundra village and said that an electricity subdivision in Mubarakpur will be set up shortly to make it more convenient for people from the surrounding villages to pay their electricity bills.
