
Mumbai Police8217;s Anti-Terrorist Squad and Special Task Force today conducted a series of raids in different parts of the city in an attempt to unearth a possible link between Tuesday8217;s blasts and the banned Students8217; Islamic Movement of India SIMI.
The Mumbai Police team came here to trace the links of SIMI members who were arrested in Mumbai about two months back, sources said. The team also interrogated SIMI8217;s state president Mohammed Amir, at present lodged in Kanpur Jail, sources added.
Mumbai-based activists of the banned organisation, purported to have a widespread base in Uttar Pradesh, is suspected to have had a hand in the seven blasts in as many local trains within a span of 11 minutes on Tuesday evening. Reports today said the police team took a few persons into custody, including one activist from Roshan Nagar and another from Gammu Khan ka Hata.
