KANNUR, DEC 4: The situation in the violence-torn parts in Kerala8217;s Kannur district continued to remain volatile on Saturday.

Tension mounted after a bomb attack on a convoy carrying Communist Party of India Marxist leaders after the cremation of their slain worker K Kunhikannan at Kuttieri near Panoor Saturday evening.

Police said a group of suspected Bharatiya Janata Party-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers hurled bombs at vehicles in which the CPI-M district secretary E P Jayarajan, and other CPI M leaders who attended the cremation were travelling. The bombs, however, missed their target and fell on the jeep carrying CPI M wokers.

Altogether 13 CPI M workers suffered minor injuries in the attack and were admitted to the Thalassery Co-operative Hospital, police said.
