CHENNAI, MARCH 6: Former Davis Cupper Nitin Kirtane of Maharashtra used his experience to douse the challenge of top seed Vijay Kannan (Del) to emerge triumphant in the men’s singles finals of the Gold Flake Aces Tour Tennis Championship (second leg) here today.

The left-handed Kirtane beat Dhaita-trainee Kannan 7-6 ( 5) 6-1 and later won the doubles in the company of his cousin Sandeep Kirtane. The duo crushed Kannan-Rishi Sridhar pair 6-1 6-3.

The 25-year-old player, seeded four, received Rs 26,000 and 30 AITA points in singles.

For Vijay it was a case of so near and yet so far. In the first leg at Madurai he went down to Sandeep Kirtane in the semi-finals and also lost the doubles finals.
