CHENNAI, MARCH 6: Former Davis Cupper Nitin Kirtane of Maharashtra used his experience to douse the challenge of top seed Vijay Kannan Del to emerge triumphant in the men8217;s singles finals of the Gold Flake Aces Tour Tennis Championship second leg here today.

The left-handed Kirtane beat Dhaita-trainee Kannan 7-6 5 6-1 and later won the doubles in the company of his cousin Sandeep Kirtane. The duo crushed Kannan-Rishi Sridhar pair 6-1 6-3.

The 25-year-old player, seeded four, received Rs 26,000 and 30 AITA points in singles.

For Vijay it was a case of so near and yet so far. In the first leg at Madurai he went down to Sandeep Kirtane in the semi-finals and also lost the doubles finals.
