Jyoti and Jeev look to put their best foot forward

Jyoti Randhawa will tee off at the US Open Golf Championship this week with little known Americans Jason Dufner and Charley Hoffman for company in the first two rounds.

The group will start on hole no. 10 of the famous Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, on Thursday but begin from the first on the next day. They start off at 9.01 am local time (6.31 pm IST) and are expected to finish by 2.31 pm (12.01 am).

The other Indian in the fray, Jeev Milkha Singh, will play alongside Woody Austin and Jay Delsing, both of the United States. Their rounds will be played between 12.30 pm to 7 pm local time (10 pm to 4.30 am IST) in the same order as the ones for Randhawa. The two Indians will be looking for a creditable finish on the tough course amidst the elite field vying for a total purse of $6.8 million in the second major of the golfing calendar.

The star attraction on the first two days would surely be the duel between world No. 1 Tiger Woods and defending champion Michael Campbell of New Zealand who have been grouped together along with Italian Edoardo Molinari who won the US amateur championship. World No. 2 Phil Mickelson is paired with South African Tim Clark and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn while Fijian Vijay Singh will play with American David Toms and Shingo Katayama of Japan.

South Africa’s Retief Goosen will play alongside US’ Stewart Cink and Irishman Padraig Harrington while Jim Furyk will tee off with Chad Campbell (US) and Australian Adam Scott.

RANDHAWA TOPS THE INDIAN CHART

New Delhi: Jyoti Randhawa dropped two places to No. 131 in world golf rankings but was way ahead of his compatriots on the international circuit.

Randhawa was the fourth highest ranked player from the Asian Tour behind Korea’s Choi Kyung-Ju (49), Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (107) and Yang Yong-Eun of Korea (129).

Shiv Kapur’s slide in the world rankings continued as he lost three spots to be placed at No. 159 in the table. Arjun Atwal, who finished a poor tied 77th at the Barclays Classic in New York, also slid from 158th to 161st.Jeev Milkha Singh also dropped two places to 164th.
