In an attempt to rebuild humanity, faith and devotion that has ebbed in wake of terrorism, global recession and atrocities on minorities the St. Patrick’s Cathedral near Race Course, will celebrate Christmas with a cause. Enthusing the revelers into an exciting Christmas carnival, a mélange of activities will be held by the parish to promote unity and brotherhood, amongst people of all faiths.“We plan to welcome the spirit of Christmas and promote the idea, that the festival is not only about merry making but also about bonding all religions in the thread of humanity. We wish to spread the message of peace and harmony,” says parish priest, Father Malcolm Sequeira. Keeping the moods mellow yet elating with the festive delight, the two-day celebrations will integrate a theme titled – Light up the World. “We will have the communities coming together to symbolise brotherhood. We will welcome people from all castes and faiths to join us in the celebrations,” he adds.Amidst lively carols and jolly good Santa greetings, a Christmas faloat having a road show will pull the crowds in four different areas on December 20. “It will include skits portraying the situation of India in these troubled times. December 21 will see a Christmas bazaar being organised at the cathedral’s grounds where people are invited to put up stalls of home made Christmas decors and sweets,” adds Father SequeiraHowever, towards the dusk, the quiet activities of the day will make way for people to sing and dance. While performances by Manasi Scott and her troupe will mesmerise the audiences, a distinguished ballerina by Eva Maria Cherukuru will add the extra zing to the celebrations. Crooning to the popular hymns and carols, Mike and Chris of Strange Brew and Cynthia Furtado of the Blend band will enthrall the parishioners followed by the spiritual discourse addressed by the bishop. Holding on to the true essence of this merry festival that marked to the core values of love, compassion and comradeship, St. Patrick's Cathedral parish intends to donate the proceeds of the carnival towards a rehabilitation home for the physically challenged children residing at Snehalaya.
